Primordial elements and nucleosynthesis

In big enough and/or old enough stars, fusion can continue to heavier elements than helium.

Another chemistry aside: Let's review the periodic table of the elements.

The number of protons increases by one every time you move to the next (highest) element in the table. The number of electrons also increases, to keep the electric charge equal to zero. The number of neutrons also increases, but in a less regular way.
