The Miller-Urey experiment

However, there are problems of course.

Some people suggest that the early Earth's atmosphere was not like the one in the experiment.

Some people question how much lightning there was, and whether the correct amounts of lightning and chemicals could ever all be in the right place at the right time.

Finally, some people say, even if you can produce amino acids on the prebiotic Earth: So what? Amino acids by themselves are certainly not life. How do you get from amino acids to life?

We'll talk about this last question some in the next couple of weeks.
