What do we know? Pre-Cassini

We learned the composition of Titan's atmosphere from the Voyager flybys:

Planetpressure (atm) H2OCH4CO2 N2O2H2
Titan1.5 00.01 - 0.06tiny 0.82-0.9900.002
Earth1 0 to 0.040.0000010.000335 0.7810.209tiny

We have also obtained a reflectance spectrum of Titan which tells us a few things:

Among other things, it tells us why Voyager couldn't see the surface, and what we can do if we do want to look at the surface.
