The authors performed an extremely detailed
analysis of the rock and found several anomalous
things. Each of these discoveries could be
explained by a variety of geological and/or
biological events, but the authors claim that
the explanation which works best for all the
evidence is the presence of biogenic relics.
The authors made arguments about microscopic
mineral grains; the presence of various kinds
of hydrocarbons in the rock; and, most remarkably,
showed these stunning microscopic photographs:
It is important to note that while
these forms look a lot like worms, they
are in fact 10 times smaller than the
smallest,
earliest fossil life forms on Earth.
The arguments for relic life in this rock
are
clearly summarized here.
