In 1996, McKay et al. published a result which
claimed to have found evidence for past life
in this Martian meteorite.
This announcement was big, big news, and everyone from
the NASA director and the New York Times to
a
Jesuit meteoriticist friend of mine
had something to say about it.
The Vatican said that
"Finding life on other planets is a vindication that God is not limited by our imagination."
