DNA is a double strand -- a double helix.

Note how the nucleic acid bases appear.

Certain nucleic acid bases pair only with certain others:

  • T <==> A [U <==> A in RNA]
  • G <==> C

    These are complementary pairs because of their sizes and shapes (see previous slide).
