Radioactivity

Radioactivity is interesting for a lot of reasons:

  • Carbon-14 dating of (dead) life forms, archeology, and stuff like that (C14 decays to N14; half-life = 5730 years)
  • Heating in the early Solar System (26Al; half-life = 720,000 years)
  • Medical uses: diagnoses, CT/CAT scan, MRI, ultrasound, therapy.
  • Energy production (fission!) on Earth today:

Where are the nuclear power plants nearby?

More information about maps of nuclear reactors from, amusingly enough, www.nukepills.com.
