Primordial elements and nucleosynthesis

We need to do a little chemistry here to understand the importance of the Big Bang for astrobiology.

Atoms are the smallest fundamental building blocks of living organisms.

Atoms comprise three sub-atomic particles: protons, neutrons, and elections.

Protons and neutrons are found in the atom's nucleus. Electrons are found orbiting around the nucleus.

Bettelheim et al.

Something you'll need to know later on: protons have positive (electrical) charge, neutrons have neutral charge (no charge), and electrons have negative charge.
