Messages sent to space

The Voyager spacecraft were launched in 1977. They were sent into space bearing golden records.

Each record contained, on one side, instructions for playing the record and some information about the senders (us) (learn about the symbols). On the other side, a record entitled "The sounds of Earth" had all kinds of good stuff which you can listen to here. Highlights include "Greetings from Earth" in 55 different languages and "Sounds of Earth" of all kinds.

Currently, Voyager 1 is more than 90 AU from the Sun and Voyager 2 is just a little bit less (though on a different trajectory).

There are also 600,000 signatures visiting Saturn onboard Cassini and about 70,000 signatures onboard the Mars rovers.
