The first eukaryotes

For the first time in this class, we are now going to talk about "higher life forms" or "advanced life forms." What we mean in this course are simply multicellular organisms.

Some of the characteristics of higher life are these:

  • multicellular -- allows for more complexity.

  • increased number of genes -- allows for storage of more information and therefore more complicated kinds of information, again allowing complexity.

  • increased diversity of cells -- increasing the numbers of cells which have different functions: the application of complexity.
