And Chinese astronomers who recorded an new bright star in the sky in 1054 AD:

".. In the 1st year of the period Chih-ho, the 5th moon, the day chi-ch'ou, a guest star appeared approximately several inches south-east of Tien-Kuan [Zeta Tauri]. After more than a year, it gradually became invisible ...." (translated by J.J. Duyvendak 1942)

It is since been determined that this new bright star was the supernova explosion that formed the Crab Nebula:
