Minerals and surface rocks

Sedimentary rocks are the result of deposition of sediment, often wind- or water-borne.

The obvious example to examine is the Grand Canyon.

These layers represent a progression in time, in this case with the oldest layers on the bottom and the youngest (most recently deposited) layers on top.
