Continued evolution of life and Earth

The importance of the biosphere in such geochemical cycles (carbon, water) should strike you when you think about redbeds. Carbon, water, and oxygen cycles are all affected by the presence of life!

This is one reason why the search for and understanding of the carbon cycle on Mars is important -- it may give us clues as to whether (and how?) life may have impacted geochemical cycles on Mars.
