Why water?

Water helps in the greenhouse effect. We will talk about the greenhouse effect next time.

Also:

  • Water is a universal solvent, which means that molecules tend to dissovle well in water. This is good for biomolecules being transported inside organisms.

  • Water also has a high dielectric constant, which means that it tends to ionize. This has the result that water -- and water inside organisms -- can be electrically charged, which speeds up chemical reactions.

  • Also, H and O are fairly common elements.
