Galaxies, cosmology, and the scale of the Universe

Galaxies are big collections of stars that are gravitationally bound. There is often a wide range of stellar ages in any given galaxy.

We live in a spiral galaxy like this one. This galaxy (M31) is the Andromeda Galaxy, the nearest spiral galaxy to us.
