Galileo

Galileo also observed Jupiter and discovered four bodies orbiting Jupiter.

Galileo correctly identified these bodies as moons. Today we call these four bodies (Io, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto) the Galilean satellites in his honor.

The existence of these moons proved that the Earth could not be the center of the Universe, since these moons clearly orbited Jupiter and not the Earth.
