Electromagnetic radiation, light, and the spectrum

All bodies in the Universe emit thermal radiation. This means they emit some amount of radiation at all wavelengths.

The peak wavelength of emission is related to the temperature of the body: higher temperatures means shorter wavelengths.

Bennett et al.

The total amount of energy radiated by a body is related to the temperature of the body: higher temperatures means more total energy radiated.
