Electromagnetic radiation, light, and the spectrum
Some basic facts about electromagnetic (EM) radiation:
All EM radiation travels the same speed in
a vacuum. This speed is the speed of
light (sometimes written as c), which
is 3 x 10^8 m/s.
That means that light can travel around
the Earth seven times in one second. That's fast!
Nothing can go faster than light. Even
Starfleet captains who, on TV, travel
at "warp speed," must slow down here on Earth.
